Seeking Forgiveness

اللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Allahumma anta rabbi la ilaha illa ant, khalaqtani wa ana abduk, wa ana ala ahdika wa wa'dika mastata't, a'udhu bika min sharri ma sana't, abu'u laka bini'matika alayya, wa abu'u laka bidhanbi faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa ant

O Allah, You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshipped except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide by Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me — for verily none can forgive sins except You.

Hisnul Muslim 77 — Sayyidul Istighfar · Sahih — Bukhari 6306

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الحَيَّ القَيُّومَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ

Astaghfirullahil-ladhi la ilaha illa huwal-hayyal-qayyuma wa atubu ilayh

I seek the forgiveness of Allah, beside whom none has the right to be worshipped except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, and I repent to Him.

Hisnul Muslim 243 · Sahih — Abu Dawud 1517, Tirmidhi 3577

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا وَإِنْ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakunanna minal-khashirin

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Quran 7:23 (Du'a of Adam) · Quranic — 7:23

رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي

Rabbi inni zalamtu nafsi faghfir li

My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me.

Quran 28:16 · Quranic — 28:16

اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ، دِقَّهُ وَجِلَّهُ، وَأَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ، وَعَلَانِيَتَهُ وَسِرَّهُ

Allahumma-ghfir li dhambi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillah, wa awwalahu wa akhirah, wa alaniyatahu wa sirrah

O Allah, forgive all my sins, the small and great, the first and last, the open and secret.

Hisnul Muslim 46 · Sahih — Muslim 483

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin

None has the right to be worshipped except You; glory be to You. Truly I have been among the wrongdoers.

Hisnul Muslim 120 — Du'a of Yunus ﷺ, Quran 21:87 · Quranic — 21:87

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni

O Allah, You are the Pardoner, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

Rabbighfir li wa tub 'alayya innaka antal-tawwabur-rahim

My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance. Verily You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Merciful.

Hisnul Muslim 185 · Sahih — Abu Dawud 1516, Tirmidhi 3434

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ

Rabbana-ghfir li wa liwalidayya wa lil-mu'minina yawma yaqumul-hisab

Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day when the account will be established.

Du'a of Ibrahim ﷺ — Quran 14:41 · Quranic — 14:41

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

Rabbighfir li wa liwalidayya wa liman dakhala baytiya mu'minan wa lil-mu'minina wal-mu'minat

My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house as a believer, and the believing men and believing women.

Du'a of Nuh ﷺ — Quran 71:28 · Quranic — 71:28

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a'lam, wa astaghfiruka lima la a'lam

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.
